Resume Objective Statement
Hooks the Employer

Your Resume Objective Statement is your chosen marketing slogan. To come up with your own special slogan just identify your unique qualification for the job and turn it into a statement. It should make the employer want interview you.

Such a statement follows on directly after the career objective that already said "the value you can offer the employer when you get the job".

Here you will be responding to the imagined question from the employer as to "Why should I hire you?" and is saying "What You Will Do in the Job". You may naturally think to include it in your cover letter, but your resume needs to be a self standing document, so better to include it here too in case it ever gets separated from your cover letter.

Don't forget, if you need a little more help go to resume objective tips

You want to keep in mind here “How will your skills, experience and achievements benefit the company?”

Try and list here 3 or 4 bullet points that directly meet the needs of the job. The problem for you is perhaps, in deciding what points to bring out. I find the best way is to look for the requirements in the job advertisement or the description of the job you would like to have. You can then mirror the main points from those requirements.

For example, if the job description says “Must have demonstrable experience in managing major systems projects for large multi-national companies”. You might simply say “Successful track record in managing systems projects with value over $50m”. Of course, the rest of your resume must provide evidence for that statement too.

Another example might be where the job description says “Must have at least 5 years experience in a responsible position in a multinational financial services company dealing with commercial and structured financial instruments”. You again might simply say “Thorough business knowledge of key areas of commercial finance”.

Whatever bullet points you choose to construct for you resume, you want to make sure you tailor them appropriately for each position or company applied for, and bear in mind throughout that you are asserting how you can benefit the new employer.

Let's move on quickly to see a clear example objective for a resume that shows how to get that gold dust called attention. This will nicely complete your resume objective statement. See example
