Resume Template:
Free to Copy

To get you started quickly and easily I have provided the most popular resume template links below. You can use these as the basis for your own resume whether it’s a simple re-write or your first time.

A resume or cv is a document which has only one purpose being to get invited to an interview. If you get the interview, then it’s a great resume. If it doesn’t then you may need to revise it for the next job. That way it grows organically and gets better every day you use it.

General Characteristics

All kinds of characteristics make you resume stand out from the crowd. Sometimes those characteristics are very subtle, such as type face or maybe the amount of white space that makes it pleasing to the eye. Other times the essential characteristics can be ‘in your face’ such as, it’s a one-pager or it screams out prestigious employers from your past.

However, you have to start somewhere and I recommend that you start with a simple template and use that to fill in your initial draft of your resume. That way you are half way there already.

So copy the sample template, but do so in a conscious manner. Try and understand why it’s laid out that way and what impact that will have on the employer.

Don’t just use what everyone else from your industry is using, otherwise you will blend in with the crowd and become anonymous. Instead try to figure out what differentiates you from the crowd. What makes you unique and desirable as an employee.

Specific Recommendations

So take a little time to review each online resume template and start with the one that will bring out your strengths, unique characteristics and achievements.

When you have done the first draft of your resume check carefully for two things:
1. That you have used industry specific keywords for both the employer to spot and also for the search engines to find
2. That you have made crystal clear how you will benefit the employer when you get the job

My personal view is that you will need a number of different types of resume for different situations. For example in my job finding campaigns I found having a one-pager was excellent for networking sessions and initial introductions. I also had a full chronological resume to take to the interview and hand to HR departments later on.

I found my short form resume worked well to stimulate interest from the employer so that they wanted to know more and to meet me. I used the old stage motto of always leave the audience wanting more.
